LEKKI CONSERVATION
CENTRE
The 78 - hectare
forest reserve is a joint project undertaken by Nigerian
Conservation Foundation and Chevron Nigeria Ltd. located at Igbo
Efon Village in Eti Osa Local Govt. Area. It extends from kilometre
19 along Lagos - Epe Expressway up to the Atlantic Ocean near Okun
Ibeji Village. The forest contains the flora and fauna of the Lagos
wetland region. It is rich in bird species both migratory and
resident. Birds commonly sighted in the area include kingfishers,
herons, hornbills, kites, pipits, wagtails, egrets and cuckoos. The
fauna resources of the reserve include Mona monkeys, monitor
lizards, crocodiles, squirrels. Grass cutters, giant rats and forest
duikers.
WHISPERING PALMS
It is located at Iworo
- Ajido about 25 kilometres from Badagry Town. It is a holiday
resort of international standard with a water front and a mini zoo
to cater for the interest of animal lovers. The zoo is home to
baboons, crocodiles, sea turtles, iguana lizards (world's largest),
tortoises and birds of different species. There is a swan marina
with more than 15 ducks at the Lagoon.
The resort has
facilities for games, entertainment, boating, catering within and
outside, conferences, standard chalets and suites. It has a mini
shop within the premises.
EKO TOURIST BEACH
RESORT AND AMUSEMENT PARK
It is an Atlantic
front and coconut fringed international holiday resort and amusement
park. It is located 65 kilometres off Maroko - Epe Road. It has
facilities for conferences, children's games and standard chalets.
It is a good venue for high class international events. It was the
venue for the first Lagos State economics summit in year 2000.
HOTELS
The hotel industry in
Lagos is growing very fast. There are as many as 5000 hotels and
guest houses in the state. But the major five star hotels are Lagos
Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Eko Hotel, Ikoyi Hotel, Federal Palace
Hotel and Durbar Hotels.
The museum is situated
at Onikan and has principally four galleries which are: Benin
gallery, Ethnographic gallery, Open gallery and the Present day
gallery comprising different works of arts on 2000 years of
Nigeria's past civilisations namely Ife, Owo, Benin and Nok culture
among others. It opens daily. There is organised facility tour and
research at the museum.
THE MUSEUM KITCHEN
It is a restaurant
located within the national museum. It serves different typical
Nigerian dishes on each day of the week. It also houses craft shops,
hair stylists, goldsmiths etc.
MOBEE MUSEUM
It is located at Mobee
family compound, Marina, Badagry. The museum is a sad reminder of
man's inhumanity to man during the slave trade era. Relics of the
slave trade made up of shackles, slave chains, chained slave gang,
mouth gag, slave drinking pot and a replica of a slave ship are
preserved in the museum.
SERIKI COMPOUND
It is a national museum and
compound of a renowned slave dealer, chief Seriki who died in 1919.
The museum has relics of the activities of slave dealers. |
